Welcome to experience Finland’s largest gun and the stunning archipelago nature on historic Kuivasaari in June and August
This popular and unique nature excursion takes you to a closed military island from Helsinki Market Square aboard Royal Line’s m/s RoyalCat. These themed cruises are available in limited numbers on only four summer weekends in total, in June and August. Salmon and vegetable soup are served on board.
In June, the main highlight of the guided tour is Kuivasaari’s unique early-summer archipelago flora in full bloom. The tour guides are nature experts. Naturally, the island’s guns and other military equipment are also presented during the excursion.
In August, the main attraction is the massive Obukhov gun turret with its 12-inch barrel, which is still fully operational in terms of its mechanics.

The price includes a cruise ticket, salmon soup (L, G) or vegetable soup (V, G) on the ship, as well as a guided tour of the island and access to the museum cannon (part of the ticket revenue is used for the cannon's renovation and maintenance).

The boat trip lasts about 1 hour. The total duration of the day trip is about 4.5 hours. You will spend about 2.5 hours on the island.

Entry to the tour requires Finnish citizenship, so a passport or ID card is required. Identity will be checked upon arrival on the island. The last day, Sun 30.08.2026, is also open to foreign visitors.

It is a good idea to dress for the weather on the island and bring good walking shoes.

Filming on the island is permitted.
- On the island, there is also a soldiers' canteen where you can enjoy coffee and doughnuts and do some shopping.
- Please note that the purchase of a special cruise is binding, and payments are non-refundable in case of cancellation. However, the reservation can be rescheduled to another cruise date, subject to availability.
