Tutustu kaupungin salaisimpaan saareen – Lähde Royal Linen mukana Kuivasaareen jälleen elokuussa!

Discover the city's most secret island – Go to Kuivasaari with Royal Line again in August!

Jul 23, 2025

For three weekends in August, Royal Line will take passengers to a rare and historic destination: Kuivasaari , a former closed military island that is rarely open to the public and therefore still quite unknown to many.

Kuivasaari is located off the coast of Helsinki and is part of a chain of sea fortifications that were built in the 1910s to protect the capital from the sea. The island is a beautiful natural site in itself, but a particularly notable attraction is the largest cannon in Finland located on the island. It is an impressive Obuhov 305 mm coastal cannon , the likes of which can no longer be seen anywhere else in Finland. The tour introduces you to not only the cannon, but also the island's fortifications, its wartime history and how the island was used as a training area for the defense forces for decades.

The theme cruise includes a guided tour of the island, access to the museum cannon and a round-trip cruise on the m/s RoyalCat. During the trip, you will eat the ship's fish or vegetable soup and enjoy the sea views. The island is not accessible, but nature has taken its own space. Sometimes short-cut meadows grow and rare birds have found their nesting places on the barren island. It is a good idea to prepare for the trip with weather-appropriate clothing and bring good walking shoes. It is possible to buy refreshments and snacks at the military home.

Places are limited. Entry to the island requires Finnish citizenship, so please bring an official ID. Learn more about the schedules and details of this unique themed cruise and book your cruise here.

See you on the aboard!
